The Washtenaw Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Tuesday, May 22 to approve a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the Washtenaw Community College Education Association, the union representing its faculty.
The agreement will take effect on August 29, 2018 and continue through August 27, 2021.
The contract will affect approximately 200 full-time faculty members and includes an average wage increase of 1.7 percent.
鈥淲e are very pleased that the contract has been ratified,鈥 said Samuel Veltri, vice president of human resources and labor relations at the college. 鈥淏oth sides came together in good faith, and the new contract strikes the right balance to ensure faculty members receive market competitive wages and benefits, while reaffirming our commitment to fiscal discipline that our taxpayers deserve.鈥

Bellanca. 鈥淚t was crucial to keep our faculty pay structure at a level comparable to other institutions of higher education, Bellanca continued. 鈥淭his agreement will allow us to continue to deliver the highest caliber of instruction our students expect and deserve.鈥
